The Otherwise Club is a Invitational Learning Community.

The Otherwise Club is invitational in the sense that there is no compulsion to be a member or, having become a member, to join any of the activities that the club offers. The club provides a space which invites members to use and do any activity they wish or to do nothing at all.

Secondly, it is part of the implicit educational philosophy of the club that learning takes place all the time. Learning is left up to the individual whatever their age. At The Otherwise Club the style of learning is continuous and learner driven.

Finally, the use of the word ‘community’ highlights a most important part of the club’s purpose, both educationally and socially. The club operates through working, playing and being together: through lived practice in the community, we get to know each other, we share problems and projects, we support each other as our roles change, and we learn tolerance and patience. All this develops community which is the cornerstone needed to put the other principles into action.

The Otherwise Club's values, its approach and its care and respect for the individual, show a way forward, a new choice and a valuable alternative on the educational landscape.
